PTA Compliance Guide

Everything about PTA approval for used phones in Pakistan

What is PTA?

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is the regulatory body that oversees telecommunications in Pakistan. PTA requires all mobile phones used on Pakistani networks to be registered through the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS) to combat phone theft, smuggling, and ensure consumer protection.

PTA Approved vs Non-PTA

  • โœ“ Higher resale value
  • โœ“ Full warranty support in Pakistan

โœ• Non-PTA

  • โœ• Cannot use Pakistani SIM cards after blocking
  • โœ• Lower resale value
  • โœ• Requires registration fee to use

Mehfoz PTA Standards

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Mandatory Disclosure

All Mehfoz listings must clearly state PTA status: Approved, Non-PTA, or Patched. Hiding this information results in listing removal and account penalties.

๐Ÿ” Verification Process

Mehfoz inspection service verifies PTA status through official channels for all phones during inspection. We provide documentation as part of the inspection report.

โ›” Blacklist Check

We also check if the IMEI is on the PTA blacklist (stolen or blocked phones). Blacklisted phones cannot be listed on Mehfoz.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Buyer Protection

If a phone listed as PTA Approved turns out to be Non-PTA, you can request a full refund through Buyer Protection within 48 hours.

Common Questions

What is a Patched phone?โ–ผ
A Patched phone is a Non-PTA phone whose IMEI has been modified to bypass PTA blocking. This is illegal in Pakistan and we strongly discourage buying or selling patched phones. Patched IMEIs can be detected and blocked.
Can I use a Non-PTA phone with WiFi only?โ–ผ
Yes, a Non-PTA phone can work on WiFi indefinitely without registration. But to use cellular networks (calls, SMS, mobile data), PTA registration is mandatory after 60 days.
How long does PTA registration take?โ–ผ
Online registration typically takes 24-72 hours. You can register through dirbs.pta.gov.pk or through your cellular carriers retail outlets.
Are PTA fees one-time?โ–ผ
Yes, PTA registration fee is a one-time charge per phone. Once registered, the phone is permanently approved for use in Pakistan.
What if I am traveling abroad with a PTA phone?โ–ผ
PTA-approved phones work normally with international SIMs while abroad. Your PTA registration remains valid even when traveling.
